From the evolution of cable TV came the ever more advanced satellite TV. Channeling a diversity of more than 100 channels, the whole nation has been obsessing on DIY and how totackle?their?own?projects?with the help of?shows?coming on?Latino satellite. This trail started blazing during the housing boom. Since the common belief was that everybody could increase the value of?their?residences by simply repairing and re-decorating them,?people?indulged in home improvement?projects?all over the world. The question arisen is ?what is the impact of this trend??

How Does DIY attract?
In this expensive day and age?people?like?tackling?their?own?projects. Home improvementshows?have attracted countless number of fans as well as started the DIY trend in many countries worldwide. Home improvement?shows?have allowed?people?to take?projects?into?theirown?hands. This also allows?people?to save money and have the inner satisfaction of a job well done.

Real side of life
Project?construction and home improvement?shows?that are aired through satellite TV are usually watched by?people?who are glued to couches or by?people?who usually struggle to even change a light bulb at?their?homes. Thanks to the information and power of satellite TV they are now more empowered and capable of handling skilled?projects, changing your average ?couch potato? into a handyman.

After viewing these home improvement and DIY?shows?on satellite TV, results varied differently.?People?found that they had discovered skills and abilities that they had never seen before and were able to complete home?projects?via the help of these programs. Others were able to carry out adequate?projects?but measured that the time and resources they had spent were almost equal to hiring professional help. Some results witnessed worsening of?projects?or DIY chores as?people?were not satisfied with the concept of DIY. A group headed for great trouble as they were changing plumbing pipes in order to fix?their?kitchens and bathrooms. This led to a disaster home improvement?project?due to accidentally drilling through the pipes. This caused flooding and house damage in the process. Some work is to be left for professionals as gas and water plumbing is to be carried out by them (professionals) according to legal requirement.

The Positive Side of the Story
All news is never bad news,?Technology?allows us to learn skills easily and efficiently. Video tutorials are something widely available online, whether it be fixing a?handle?or sketching a picture on Photoshop, these tutorials can also be accessed via mobile devices. You can also find various applications which help measuring and calculating projections for DIY?projects. With the ability to rewind and pause with newer versions of Satellite TV,?there?is more time to understand vital information.

Critics view the economic meltdown to actually have a positive effect in home/DIY?projects.People?have realized that instead of hiring professional help for tasks such as painting a room, it can be easily done via watching tutorials and home improvements?shows?on your satellite TV. While some folks have realized that they can easily increase the value of?their?households by installing internal walls and laminate flooring. Most of us have now realized that DIY tasks can create unique and compelling objects, while having fun and saving money in the process.

In the current economic situation, DIY & Home improvement?projects?are now of a higher significance. You could think of spending a lot of money on making your house the best, but those boom years have gone. Nowadays it boils down to how much money can be saved if you create your child?s bedroom by yourself. Houses have earned?their?true meaning of being personal abodes rather than an investment option.

Inspiration, tips and ideas are what home improvement?shows?provide to the general public and with your?Latino Satellite?TV you can easily follow these programs with pausing as well as re?watching the?shows?to master skills taught in the episodes.

Commercial natural gas was likely major factor in late-20th century stabilization

Irvine, Calif. Increased capture of natural gas from oil fields probably accounts for up to 70 percent of the dramatic leveling off seen in atmospheric methane at the end of the 20th century, according to new UC Irvine research being published Thursday, Aug. 23, in the journal Nature.

"We can now say with confidence that, based on our data, the trend is largely a result of changes in fossil fuel use," said chemistry professor Donald Blake, senior author on the paper.

Methane has 20 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide, although CO2 is filling the atmosphere in far larger amounts. After decades of increases due to worldwide industrial and agricultural activity, the tapering off of methane from the 1980s through 2005 was remarkable. Scientists have long wrestled with the cause.

Blake and his team, who have conducted the world's longest continuous methane and ethane sampling, said close scrutiny of their data shows that the major factor was most likely the trapping and sale of natural gas for use as a fuel source, which sharply reduced the skyward venting and flaring of methane from oil fields. Methane is the main ingredient in natural gas.

"It used to just be burned off as a waste product," said lead author Isobel Simpson, a UCI research associate. "The reason this is important is because methane is a potent greenhouse gas, second in importance only to carbon dioxide. We can't make real progress on climate change without tackling carbon dioxide, but bringing methane under control would certainly help."

Since 2007, levels have started to climb again, adding urgency to the scientific mystery. Many researchers have tried to determine what prompted the decline, including others at UCI. Last summer, a pair of papers in Nature offered different causes: less natural gas from oil fields in one case and changing fertilizer and water practices in rice paddies in the other. Blake said his group had confirmed using comprehensive global measurements that the former was probably the major factor.

For nearly 30 years, successive generations of UCI chemistry students and researchers have filled canisters with air samples at remote locations across the globe. The breadth and length of that sampling proved invaluable in solving the methane puzzle, said one.

"This paper speaks to the importance of scientific insight that only can be gained from decades of meticulous, sustained data recording," said co-author Mads Sulbaek Andersen, formerly of UCI and now with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

2 Thoughts on Security - Shawn J. Roberts

This guess post is from Chris Moroz the Owner of Your|I.T., an I.T. and computer repair business in Oklahoma City. They focus on helping small businesses and consumers get the most out of their technology. For more information, you can visit their website (www.YourITok.com) or give them a call (405-367-9090).

Computer security has changed. WIth all the new toys we carry around with us, we might as well call it gadget security nowadays. While there are dozens of security topics that could easily be covered, there are two key areas that seem to be of high interest to our clients.

Antivirus
Let?s get this out of the way right now. You need antivirus software. It doesn?t matter if you use Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux. You had better be running some security software. Regardless of how secure the various computer makers claim their software to be, there are viruses for every OS in existence and you need protection. In addition to protecting yourself, antivirus software acts is a vaccine for others. Can you imagine the implications if you inadvertently forward an infected email message to a client or colleague?

With dozens of security products and antivirus solutions available to choose from today, how can you be sure you?re getting the best one for your needs? I?ll make some recommendations in a moment, but first let?s take a look at how most packages work. There are 2 main types of security software available. Antivirus software and Security Suites. Basic Antivirus software is going to do one thing (and presumably do it well): it?s going to keep your computer free from viruses. A Security Suite, by contrast, is going to add-in a firewall, SPAM filtering, website checking, and more. If you?re a safe computer user who doesn?t click on strange emails, knows better than to visit seedy websites, and only shops at reputable online stores, you will likely do fine with a basic antivirus program. However, if you like to click on every link you see, want finite control over security settings, enjoy exploring the underbelly of the Internet and/or install all manner of free software, you will probably need to choose a full security suite.
Here are some of our favorites:

Windows:
Basic (Free) ? Microsoft Security Essentials
Advanced ($50) ? Vipre Internet Security (full disclosure ? Your|I.T. is a Vipre reseller/affiliate and the this link will take you to our website for info/purchase)

Mac OS X:
Basic (Free) ? Sohpos
Advanced ($40) ? Eset

Linux:
Basic (Free) ? Avast
Advanced ($40) ? Eset

Public WiFi
Free and highly available, public WiFi is everywhere. Starbucks, McDonalds, Joe?s Oil Change, it seems that every business you see now offers free wireless Internet. While convenient, it?s far from secure, and there are some considerations to take when connecting. First, you need to understand that most businesses haven?t given any thought to YOUR security. They likely have separate wireless connections for the office and public, but this only ensures that THEIR systems remain secure. You may be separated from the businesses systems, but the public side is a communal free-for-all (even if you connected via a password). Once you?re on the public wireless, anyone with a little know-how can monitor what websites you?re visiting, steal your passwords, there?s even the potential for them to browse the files on your hard drive. I may sound alarmist, but that?s the point. It?s serious stuff that few people recognize or talk about, so let?s keep you safe.

The most basic ways to ensure you?re protected are to do the following:

1) Set the network to Public. This turns off file sharing and a few other computer settings to help keep you safer. Here?s how you do it in Windows. Unfortunately, this isn?t a very straightforward task in Mac OS X, sorry.
2) Use HTTPS everywhere you can. Instead of going to http://www.gmail.com, go to httpS://www.gmail.com (note that the capitilzation is for emphasis only and is not neccasey when typing in the address). The ?S? stands for secure, and creates a secure, encrypted connection to that website. Once there, this prevents anyone else from snooping on you. Banks, email, shopping, and any other websites that require a password usually support this technology. This little trick can you save you a world of headaches.
3) Use a secure VPN service. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. Whereas https creates a secure connection to a specific website, a VPN creates a secure connection for your entire computer. Our favorite is HotSpotShield. They offer both a free and paid version, as well as versions for your iOS device and Android. http://www.hotspotshield.com/

Is AJ Lee unstable or just power hungry?

Raw General Manager AJ Lee is interviewed by WWE.com: WWE.com Exclusive, August 23, 2012AJ Lee ponders what is next for CM Punk after SummerSlam: WWE.com Exclusive, August 19, 2012CM Punk vs. Big Show: Raw, August 13, 2012AJ Lee Entrance VideoAJ Lee comes to SmackDown for a heart-to-heart with Daniel Bryan and Kane: SmackDown, August 10, 2012CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan: Money in the Bank 2012 - DVD PreviewRaw GM AJ Lee announces Daniel Bryan vs. Kane at SummerSlam: Raw, August 6, 2012

In just four short weeks as Raw General Manager, AJ Lee has managed to stir up plenty of controversy. From forcing CM Punk to defend his WWE Championship in a Triple Threat Match at SummerSlam to making Daniel Bryan undergo mandatory psychological evaluation, the allegedly unbalanced Diva hasn?t done much to get herself in the good graces of part of the WWE locker room.

During Raw this past Monday, WWE.com reporters overheard Superstars and Divas wondering whether the diminutive Diva has let the absolute power that comes with her position go to her head rather quickly.

All it seems to take is the utterance of the word ?crazy? within shouting distance of Lee to earn a competitor a match where the odds are heavily stacked against him or her. Just ask JTG, who was forced to do battle with the demolition machine called Ryback, or David Otunga, who was knocked out by an enraged Big Show after offering his legal services to the new GM.

There?s one Superstar in particular, though, who has a pretty big bone to pick with Lee after one of her rulings Monday night.

Dolph Ziggler strapped a rocket to his back when he won the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Contract. He has a guaranteed opportunity at the championship to use at any time in the next year. All but one Superstar have successfully cashed in their contract, making The Showoff a near-lock to become World Heavyweight Champion.

However, that rocket almost came crashing back down to Earth Monday night - with Ziggler attached - when Lee forced Ziggler to risk his guaranteed title opportunity against Jericho?s WWE contract in a SummerSlam rematch. (WATCH) Dolph had been begging for another chance at Jericho since Y2J?s arm was raised in victory Sunday night at The Biggest Party of the Summer, sending a Tout following the pay-per-view and stating that nothing was settled between the two.

Ziggler had no reason to believe he would be forced into risking the opportunity of a lifetime to get Jericho in the ring once again. He looked extremely uneasy as Lee made the match. His manager, Vickie Guerrero, paced around the locker room, stressing the importance of Monday?s match.

?We have to win!? she screamed at The Showoff, imagining her meal ticket disappearing with a single three-count.

A clearly anxious Ziggler tried his best to calm her down, guaranteeing victory. Though Ziggler defeated Jericho, removing a big thorn from his side, he still had a sour taste in his mouth after Raw went off the air. Sources close to The Showoff tell WWE.com that even though Ziggler is glad to be rid of Y2J once and for all, he and Guerrero still felt AJ Lee?s decision to put his Money in the Bank Contract at risk was extremely harsh.

Making the situation even more confusing is that earlier in the show, AJ refused to grant Alberto Del Rio a World Heavyweight Title rematch against Sheamus, saying that she had no jurisdiction over SmackDown's championship. How, then, could she force Ziggler to put the blue brand's Money in the Bank Contract up for grabs?

WWE.com caught up with Lee to clear up the confusion regarding her jurisdiction. However, when we asked her about it, her response made us a little uneasy about continuing that line of questioning. (WATCH INTERVIEW)

Since his very short World Heavyweight Title reign in 2011, Ziggler has been slowly clawing his way back to the top of WWE. Lee?s snap decision could have sent him back to the bottom of the ladder.

AJ Lee?s rash decision-making has left Ziggler, his fellow Superstars and the entire WWE Universe wondering whether she is as unstable as once believed, or if the power she now wields over the Raw roster has consumed her completely.

No feeling of liberation in rebel-held Syrian town

AZAZ, Syria (Reuters) - Syrian rebel fighters speak proudly of the day forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad fled in their tanks from the northern town of Azaz as civilians armed with hunting rifles pushed into the main square. Yet a month on, there is no feeling of liberation here.

Eight km (five miles) down the main road, army troops still control a military airport from which they fire missiles almost nightly into the heart of Azaz, a town where more than half the residents have fled and refuse to return. And last week, a fighter jet dropped two bombs on a central residential district killing at least 30 people.

"We are not liberated. We'll have to wait until after Assad is overthrown, I think," said Abu Imad, a young activist and ex-law student who left the University of Aleppo in his final year to join a burgeoning protest movement as it started in March 2011.

Much of eastern Syria bordering Iraq, northern areas bordering Turkey and even rural parts of central Syria have fallen out of Assad's control as he has focused his fight on cities such as Aleppo, Hama and Damascus. That has left many outlying towns and villages in a similar situation to Azaz.

Azaz is in limbo: unable to move on with ordinary life even if feared government loyalists are not in the streets. Piles of rubbish lie outside, schools remain closed and the main hospital is empty - the staff fled to the other side of the Turkish border, three km (two miles) away.

Few streets remain unscathed from months of bombing and shop shutters are twisted by explosions. The families that remain sit expressionless in the shade outside their houses. The odd teenage rebel fighter with a scratched up assault rifle in hand will scoot by on a motorbike.

REMINDERS OF WAR

Many of the town's sons who fought in Azaz have formed brigades and moved down to the frontline in Aleppo, Syria's largest city of 2.5 million people where army troops battle rebel units neighborhood by neighborhood.

Their bodies return on stretchers to Azaz, reminding this sleepy border town that the war is far from won. On Tuesday, an 18-year-old fighter died in the morning on the frontline, killed by a sniper bullet to the head.

Funerals here are a regular occurrence and the visitors to the house of Amar Ali Amero were inexpressive, looking at his body wrapped in blankets before going outside to wait for the procession. Only Amar's closest family members seemed shocked that he had died.

His mother wailed as relatives held her up and his father fainted on sight of his dead son. After a moment of unconsciousness, he was splashed with water and woke up to realize for a second time that he had lost his son.

At the graveyard, men moved like robots to bury Amar.

The ritual is well-known and dozens of fresh graves lie in rows. The older tombstones from peacetime are beautifully fashioned out of marble with Arabic calligraphy. The hurried new ones are a chipped pieces of smooth stone with the names, birth and death dates scribbled on with felt-tip pens.

Several graves had been dug in preparation for the inevitable continued fatalities. Some were only four feet long. "For babies," said a man walking by. Amar died on Tuesday morning and by 2:30 p.m. his body was under Azaz soil. The crowd dispersed.

NOT FULL CONTROL

As with many towns across the country, it would be inaccurate to say Azaz is completely under the control of rebels.

The Syrian army decided to withdraw to the nearby military airport, a huge base housing five helicopters. Fighters say 400 men are stationed there but have decided to stay put for now.

In an olive grove a few hundred meters from the airport hide four rebels armed with AK47 assault rifles. They have one rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a heavy machine gun attached to the back of a pick-up truck.

"We have teams around the airport that start shooting when the helicopters take off. They have been unable to resupply the base for four days as they can't take off," Mahmoud Khajali, a rebel fighter said.

But these rebels say they are worryingly exposed. They say there is little chance they can take the airport while Assad controls the skies. Whenever they fire on the airport they come under mortar fire and sometimes face strikes by fighter jets.

NO HOPE FOR OUTSIDE WORLD

Hopes for help from the outside world have been silenced and many now feel anger, saying they have been left for dead. People here have been trying for months to garner food, medicine and weapons from countries that have thrown angry rhetoric at Assad but have been unable to halt the killing.

"America is with Bashar. All of Europe is with Bashar," shouted a man as he squatted on a concrete boulder inside his bombed-out house. Last week, his son and daughter died and now his home for 40 years has been split in two. Passersby look directly into the kitchen and bathroom. While Muhammed Omar Ramdo spoke, his entire body shook as he held back the tears.

Only a trickle of food is brought across the border and reaches Azaz. There is no sign of international aid here and residents say they are running out of supplies. Baby milk is the hardest to come by, they say. The mosque organizes the distribution of rice, pasta and chickpeas to families here but says there is not enough to go around.

Rebels say that all their weapons and ammunition are looted from Assad's troops during battles.

"We have not received one lira from outside," said rebel commander Abu Musaab Al-Surie shortly before a missile whizzed over the farm house where he is staying and landed in Azaz.

The fight is far from won, he adds.

"We'll do this ourselves."

Injury-prone Vick down again for Eagles

(AP) ? Michael Vick has needed four medical tests through two preseason games and has completed only four passes.

That is an ominous sign for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback left Monday night's win at New England after injuring his ribs on his sixth play. He lasted just six plays against Pittsburgh before being forced out by an injured left thumb.

X-rays on Vick's ribs at the stadium were negative, and an MRI and CT scan on Tuesday revealed he has no broken bones or fractured cartilage. Vick has a contusion of his ribs and of the soft tissue surrounding it. He also needed X-rays on his thumb, and those tests were also negative.

It is likely Vick won't take another snap until the Eagles (No. 8 in the AP Pro32) open the regular season at Cleveland on Sept. 9.

"I'm just going to play it by ear," coach Andy Reid said after the victory over the Patriots. "I'm not going to say anything about where we're at with that right now."

Considering Vick has been injury prone ? he missed three games because of rib injuries in each of the past two seasons ? it seems risky to play him in the last two preseason games. The Eagles visit the Browns this Friday and host the New York Jets on Aug. 30.

Then again, Vick looks as though he needs work.

"If he didn't play again (in the preseason) then he'd be OK," Reid said. "I would tell you I'd probably like to see him play a little bit more, but he's got enough experience. We're not talking about a rookie. I think he'll probably be OK."

Vick has led the offense to just one first down in 12 plays. The Patriots weren't even using their starters against Philadelphia's first-team offense.

"I think we should have performed a lot better than we did, especially since it wasn't their first string out there," right tackle Todd Herremans said. "We should have been able to run the ball a lot easier earlier in the game."

Vick was injured on a hard shot by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham after heaving a deep pass. In hindsight, it was a busted play, and Vick probably should have dumped the ball off short instead of throwing deep and exposing himself to a big hit.

Vick vowed throughout the summer to avoid the reckless play that often has landed him in the trainer's room. But he dove headfirst on a running play before getting knocked out of the game.

The thumb injury in the opener was on a freak play. He banged his thumb on center Jason Kelce's helmet on his follow-through while making a pass.

"I'm not that concerned other than the fact that he is hurt," Reid said. "I want to make sure that he heals up and gets back out there. And hopefully he doesn't get hurt again."

Rookie Nick Foles, a third-round pick out of Arizona, replaced Vick and had another impressive performance. Foles was 18 for 28 for 217 yards and two touchdown passes. Foles entered camp competing with Mike Kafka for the backup job.

So far, Foles is 24 of 38 for 361 yards, with four TDs and one interception for a passer rating of 118.4.

"Michael Vick's the leader of this team. He's a tremendous quarterback and a tremendous leader," Foles said. "They were very confident when I stepped in because those guys have been together and they know I'm going to go out there and play as hard as I can for them.

"There is a sense of confidence in there, within the unit. And I was just going to go out there and execute. The line did a great job protecting, and our receivers did a great job getting open, so my job was really just to stay in rhythm and get the ball to our players."

The Difference Between Debt And Equity Financing ? Smart Finance ...

August 22nd, 2012 by admin Leave a reply ?

There are two main types of financing for a business, debt or equity financing. Debt financing tends to be the type of financing you receive from a traditional bank loan and equity financing tends to be financing you receive from venture capital into your business from outside investors. The benefit of debt financing is that it is finite and you will pay down the debt over time to a zero sum balance without any further obligation to the lender. The down stroke to debt financing is that traditional lenders will take a hard look at your business including how long it has been in existence, income from operation, expenses and will require hard assets for collateral for the loan. Additionally, lenders will most certainly want you (and any other principals of the organization) to personally guarantee repayments of the loan. Another disadvantage of debt financing is that your organization will be burdened with some other type of regular payment (usually a monthly payment) depending on the terms and conditions of the financing and this can absorb critical cash flow, especially with small business.

The benefit of equity financing or venture capital is that you will be receiving money in exchange for equity in your business in the form of stock or some other form of equity like percentage of income or gross/net sales. A primary benefit of this type of financing is that typically there is no monthly payment requirement to investors. Instead, you are giving up ownership interest, most often, permanently.

Traditional lenders, banks for example, will look at your business much differently than venture capitalist. Bankers want a zero-risk or near-zero risk position when they provide financing and will rely almost completely on the operating economics of the business with little regard for ?potential future growth?. They want to see strong cash flow backed up by hard assets before they do a deal?the ingredients that most small business lack or they wouldn?t be seeking financing, right? Venture capitalist, on the other hand, tend to consider the management team and the potential future growth of the business more heavily than actual operating numbers, especially for small business with large potential but few sales and little or no operating history. Although these two lender types vary in their approach to analyzing a business for funding, you can be sure that careful scrutiny of you business will be conducted?

Besides the actual operating economics and pro forma analysis, both types of lenders will look closely at two particular documents: 1. Your business plan. 2. Your bank or loan request package. These two documents, if assembled correctly, can make the difference between success and failure when dealing with either lender type.

There are plenty of free SBA related materials that tell you how to create blue-chip, boiler plate business plans but they tend to be written for perfect businesses and not the average Joe who is less than picture perfect. If you are seeking some type of financing for your business I strongly suggest that you visit our site and check out our business e-books. We have several that cover a variety of topics and there are specifically two that will be a real treasure for you to own. One is called Power Planning (a powerful report on writing a wide variety of business plans) and How To Raise Money For You Business (teaches you how to assemble professional loan requests packages). They are priced at $5 each and can be worth millions in the hands of the right person. I am not trying to hype product, I am simply giving you a heads up.

The secrets to getting financing from either type of lender is a closely held secret by financial and business brokers for a number of reasons. Chief among them is it forces people like you to do business with them and they earn commissions. The SBA materials, while good, do not have the street savvy to get the job done in most cases. The proof is in the pudding?what has the SBA ever done for you? The SBA is just another government back bureaucratic nightmare for most. We also have some links for venture capital firms in our business links area located on our site on the Smart Link Zone page?it?s all-free.

D&D Next: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

If you are in a timezone that is alright to play after 7pm EST, I'll be hosting a playtest of D&D Next. It is the newest edition of D&D and it isn't even out yet! Think of it as a beta test for the unreleased system. I will be hosting approximately 6 different adventures under this system and still need two to three more people. If you have experience with D&D or similar tabletop games (online or off) please post in the OOC thread or reply here.

What days of the week are best for you?

What time after 7pm EST is best for you?

What systems have you played, and how long have you played tabletop games?

Please be sure to read over the rules there before trying to submit any characters, I'm only approving three more people at the most.

TomTom refreshes Navigation app for iOS, adds social features

TomTom has refreshed its Navigation App for iPhone and iPad with a new user interface, Foursquare integration and constantly updated maps. It'll also automatically check into your favorite hangouts to avoid forgetting to oust your frenemies at your local coffee house. The revised application will also help you avoid French speed traps that don't fall foul of new laws on traffic alerts, with the whole thing playing very nice with the recently announced car kit. The app retails for €70 ($87) in the App Store -- although we're not sure how popular it's going to be if those same features will be bundled in iOS 6.
